Canisius Secondary School teacher Grey Sichoonga, has momentarily put aside his chalk and stepped forward to fill the gap left by Fewdays Musonda at New Monze Swallows Football Club.
The Monze-based teacher who is a CAF B holder and proprietor of FAZ Division one Zone 4 Chikuni Co-ps was introduced to the team on Wednesday.
In a statement availed to Goal Diggers, the little known Zambia Schools’ National Coach who has been in football administration for years was given the caretaker role while the club was still scouting for an official coach.
“Five coaches have since expressed interest, two of them foreigners but the club is yet to make a final decision due to resources,” said club communications manager, Tim Zulu.
“We are fortunate for now because Sichoonga is Monze-based and he understands the current financial problem the club is going through so it was easy for us to engage him,” Zulu added.
Meanwhile, Sichoonga expressed happiness at his appointment and explained how he was going to fit in well at the struggling club.
“I have been following the team since their promotion, I don’t think it will be difficult for me to fit in. We just have to use what we have and see how best we can help the team. This team is the pride of the town so we are going to put our heads together and help it in the remaining games, ” Sichoonga said.
He further urged club sponsors to keep supporting the team.
Swallows was away in Lusaka to play National Assembly on Sunday at Edwin Imboela Stadium.
