Four Zambian football teams have recorded vital victories in their CAF Champions league and Continental football games with the latest two being Nkana and Green Buffaloes while ZESCO United and Green Eagles enjoyed their wins in the Tuesday diary of action.
Yesterday, Buffaloes hosted El Merreikh of Sudan to a 2-0 triumph at Nkoloma stadium while in Mozambique Nkana battled it out to a 2-1 victory against UD Songo.
It was a goalless first half between the combatants and Merreikh as attacks from both sides went begging from long wide range shots. Merreikh seemed at home with little panic in their defence and opted from a back build up to the goal. Buffaloes on the other hand displayed disciplined defending as they committed less fouls.
The game transitioned into a vigorous one as both teams opted for individual effort to find the back of the net. Friday Samu hyped the game after scoring in the 60th minute from a quite decent connection that emanated from the midfield.
In the 73rd minute Steward Chikandiwa doubled the lead for the army side from a long shot that Merreihk defender failed to deflect away by an inch. A fast-paced game was adopted by the Sudanese side but could not result into a goal. The game ended 2-0.
In Mozambique, Harrison Chisala gave Nkana the lead in the 34th minute and the Kitwe giants enjoyed a first half victory. The second half saw the Kalampa Boys defending more than they attacked. Nkana was also losing possession easily in the early minutes of the second half.
Festus Mbewe, howeve, doubled Nkana’s lead in 80th minute and maintained lead up to regulation time. El Merreihk’s Sunday Awasa managed a consolation goal for his side in additional time. Nkana carried the day with a 2-1 victory.
