Central Province Minister Sydney Mushanga says President Edgar Lungu values education and that has driven him to donate a special Valentines gift to learners in the province.
Speaking when he donated over 22,000 Patriotic Front branded books to 8 schools in Bwacha Constituency, Wednesday, Mushanga said the donation demonstrated President Lungu’s commitment to promoting the education.
“What has brought me here is very simple. I have a donation of exercise books to be given to the pupils. He has given books to all PF members of parliament to distribute to their respective
constituencies. This is a donation that has come from His Excellency President Edgar Lungu. This is an indication that his Excellency attaches great importance to the education sector. The education sector is a priority ministry because the president is very much aware that with an educated community then you will have national development,” Mushanga said.
Mushanga disclosed that he had selected eight schools in his constituency to distribute the books to.
“In Bwacha constituency, we have close to 30 schools. But the books may not be adequate to distribute to every school. So I have selected 8 schools where these books shall be distributed. Today, being Valentines Day, you can receive these books as a special valentine gift from the president,” he said.
And in a vote of thanks, Danford Chirwa Seconadry School Headboy Niza Simwanza, said the books will go a long way in helping learners to improve their writing skills.
“We are most grateful for this donation because they will be of great help to us as pupils. Inadequate books have an impact on the academic performance of pupils. Therefore, we promise to use these books well so that we can improve our academic performance,” said Simwanza.
