Lupososhi PF member of parliament Lazarous Chungu has sustained injuries after he was involved in a road accident along the Kasama-Luwingu road on Tuesday.
And Zambia Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo has confirmed the accident in a statement.
The accident happened when his Ford Ranger Twin Cab registration number BAD 7762, in which he was travelling together with five others, had a tyre burst and overturned.
Katongo stated that the accident occurred on Tuesday around 17:30 hours and that the vehicle was being driven by Dombe Siyamunji Chinene, aged 60, of Choma in Southern Province who sustained a bruised knee and a cut on the forehead.
“On board were six passengers among them Hon. Bwalya Chungu of Lusaka, who is Member of Parliament for Lupososhi constituency who sustained injuries, and a four months old male juvenile who also sustained some injuries. Of the six passengers, five sustained injuries, while one escaped unhurt. The accident happened when the motor vehicle, which was being driven from east to west had a rear left tyre burst, which led the motor vehicle to go off the road to the extreme right, hit into an embankment and overturned,” Katongo stated.
She stated that all the injured persons are admitted to Kasama General Hospital.
