The Zambia Police Service has denied National Restoration Party (NAREP) a permit to carry out a peaceful demonstration against Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA)’s decision to impose a 30-day suspension on Prime TV’s licence.
In a letter to addressed to NAREP Secretary General Ezra Ngulube, the Lusaka district urban headquarters officer commanding, M Zimba, acknowledged receipt of NAREP’s notice, dated March 7, 2019, of intention to undertake a peaceful protest against the closure of Prime TV but denied the request.
“I wish to acknowledge receipt of your notice dated 7th March, 2019 intending to undertake a peaceful protest against the closure of Prime TV. You may wish to know that Police will be engaged in other National duties and may not be there to provide security. You are therefore, advised not to go ahead with your intended peaceful protest,” read the letter.
