AGRICULTURE economist Edify Hamukale says it’s an insult to the country for any Zambian charged with responsibility of transacting at the border to facilitate mealie meal smuggling at a time like now. On Tuesday, Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu revealed that officers working at Chirundu border were facilitating the smuggling of mealie meal. Commenting on Mwiimbu’s revelations in an interview, Wednesday, Hamukale called for the need to inculcate a spirit of patriotism among Zambians, saying a well-meaning citizen wouldn’t allow food to exit the country in a deficit window like now regardless of the profits involved. “For food as much as we desire profit, I think we should look at the needs of the domestic population first....
