THE National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) has withdrawn from the Tonse Alliance. NRPUP Secretary General Nonde Mubanga announced this during a press briefing yesterday. The NRPUP, which sponsored Brian Mundubile’s presidential candidature, was the special purpose vehicle which the Tonse Alliance chose for the August 13 polls. The party proved to be the biggest opposition in the polls, with its candidate Mundubile coming second behind President Hakainde Hichilema, and winning 59 parliamentary seats in the process. Recently, NRPUP president Ezra Tembo said the party had accepted the outcome of the 2026 presidential election, pledging to offer checks and balances to President Hichilema’s UPND government.
