Lusaka Mayor Miles Sampa has constituted new standing committees for the Lusaka City Council (LCC).
And Sampa has appointed Tasila Lungu of Nkoloma Ward one in Chawama constituency as chairperson for the Legal Services Committee.
According to a statement issued by LCC public relations unit, Sampa stated that the new committee will take over from the previous committees whose mandates ended in December last year.
He further stated that because of the cholera outbreak and the subsequent demise of late Mayor Wilson Kalumba in May, the process of constituting new committees was delayed.
Sampa appointed Munali Ward 33 councillor Sylvester Mulenga as chairperson for the committee on Finance, Valuation and Commercial Undertakings, to be assisted by Matero’s Mwembeshi Ward 27 councillor Kelvin Kaunda.
He also appointed Matero ward 28 councillor Anne Chinyama as chairperson for the committee on Human Resources and Administration, deputised by her Raphael Chota Ward 22 counterpart Joseph Tamba of Mandevu constituency.
Others are councillor Bupe Mulenga of Munkolo Ward 12 in Kanyama constituency as Planning and Information Systems who will be assisted by Watson Mtonga of Mtendere Ward 30 in Munali constituency, while the Engineering and Infrastructure Committee will be headed by Ngwerere ward 19 councillor Adrian Banda in Mandevu constituency and will be deputized by councillor Smart Mwitwa of Chakunkula Ward 32 in Munali constituency.
“Community Development and Social Services Committee will be chaired by councillor Muhammed Mutete of Lilayi Ward four in Chawama constituency. His deputy will be councillor Patrick Salubusa of Kapwepwe Ward 25 in Matero constituency. Councillor Christopher Shakafuswa is the new chairperson for the Education Services Committee and his deputy will be councillor Kasongo Chomba of Kalingalinga Ward 31 in Munali constituency. The Health Services Committee will be headed by councillor George Daka of Independence Ward 14 in Lusaka Central constituency, and he will be deputised by councillor Teddy Mwaba of Justin Kabwe Ward 21 in Mandevu constituency. The Agriculture, Environment and National Resources Committee will be headed by councillor Patrick Mwansa of Kabulonga Ward 16 in Lusaka Central and he will be deputised by councillor Moses Bwalya from Kamwala Ward five in Kabwata constituency,” The PR unit quoted Sampa as saying.
Sampa further appointed Tasila Lungu of Nkoloma Ward one in Chawama constituency as chairperson for the Legal Services Committee and will be assisted by her Kabwata ward six counterpart Longa Chiboboka, and the Audit Committee will be chaired by Ward nine councillor Jonas Phiri with John Howard Ward three’s councillor Kafula Mutale as deputy.
The Mayor has also appointed councillor Humphrey Kapapula of Lubwa Ward 15 in Lusaka Central constituency as Chief Whip taking over from councillor Mwitwa.
And Sampa has appealed to all councillors to accord the Chief Whip and new committee chairpersons the much-needed support to foster unity as a group.
