Police in Chadiza district of Eastern Province have arrested a 28-year-old man for defiling a 13-year-old juvenile.

Lynn Phiri, a teacher at Mwangazi primary school in Chief Mwangala’s area in Chadiza district is said to have defiled a younger sister of his fellow teacher on the evening of November 17, 2018.

Eastern Province Police Commissioner Luckson Phiri disclosed this to journalists at his office in Chipata, explaining that the matter was reported to Chadiza police by the victim’s elder brother on November 20th, 2018.

“I want to confirm that Chadiza police station is in receipt of a report of defilement which was reported on the 20th of November, 2018 at about 15:00 hours by male Francis Zulu aged 30 years, who is a senior teacher at Mwangazi primary school in Chief Mwangala, Chadiza district. That his younger sister, a female juvenile aged 13 years of the same address and a grade seven pupil at the same mentioned school was defiled by male Lynn Phiri aged 28 years, a teacher at the same school. This occurred on 17th of November 2018, at about 19:00 hours at the House of the same reporter. The brief facts are that on the material date, the reporter had gone to Vubwi and at about 19:00 hours, the suspect now went to the house of the reporter, knocked on the window and the younger sister to the reporter came out of the house through the window, they went to the toilet where he had canal knowledge with the same victim,” Commissioner Sakala narrated.

Commissioner Sakala said the suspect had been arrested and would appear in court soon.

“Fortunately, one of the neigbours within the compound saw the victim when she was actually jumping out of the window, going to the toilet together with the suspect and also at the same time after finishing whatever they were doing, when the victim got back into the house through the window. So having actually seen that, she immediately went and reported to the wife to the owner of the house that this is what she had seen and when the victim was called and questioned, she narrated the whole ordeal about what had actually transpired,” said Commissioner Sakala.

“When they further questioned her, she even produced a Chitenge material which they had used whilst in the toilet which actually had some dry semen. That was the time now when the owner of the house came back from Vubwi. After getting all the details of what had transpired, he went to Chadiza police station where he had the matter reported. Acting on the report, police actually visited the scene of defilement and after that, the suspect was picked, he has been arrested and he will appear in court soon.”
