FORMER South African president Thabo Mbeki has hailed first Zambian president Kenneth Kaunda for his contribution towards the liberalisation struggle of Africa, describing him as a giant in many ways. Speaking during Dr Kaunda’s memorial public lecture, Thursday, Mbeki said Dr Kaunda was a giant in his respect for the truth, his love for the people and his commitment to serve their interests. “As we began this lecture we cited an obituary published in a Nigerian newspaper which among others described president Kaunda as the last African Liberation Giant.
