A 35-year-old man has been dragged to court for allegedly swindling five people out of K23,500 by
falsely pretending that the Lusaka Judiciary was recruiting candidates to fill in job vacancies when infact not.

In this matter, Wycliffe Banda has been charged with five counts of obtaining money by false pretenses contrary to Section 309 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence in count one allege that on an unknown date in February 2019 in Lusaka, Banda, while acting together with other persons unknown and with intent to defraud, obtained K8,000 cash from Ruth Gondwe by falsely pretending that the Lusaka Judiciary was recruiting candidates to fill in job vacancies, when in fact not.

In court two, it is alleged that on an unknown date in February 2019 in Lusaka, Banda while acting together with other persons unknown and with intent to defraud, obtained K3,000 cash from Naomi Chilenga by falsely pretending that the Lusaka Judiciary was recruiting candidates to fill in job vacancies when in fact not.

In count three, it is alleged that Banda also obtained K2,000 cash from Agness Katongo by falsely pretending that the Lusaka Judiciary was recruiting candidates to fill in job vacancies when infact not.

In count four, it is alleged that on an unknown date in February 2019 in Lusaka, Banda while acting together with other persons unknown and with intent to defraud, obtained K2,500 cash from Lazarus Phiri by falsely pretending that the Lusaka Judiciary was recruiting candidates to fill in job vacancies when in fact not.

And in the last count, it is alleged that on an unknown date in April 2019 in Lusaka, Banda while acting together with other persons unknown and with intent to defraud, obtained K8,000 cash from Ruth Gondwe by falsely pretending that the Lusaka Judiciary was recruiting candidates to fill in job vacancies when in fact not.

However, when the matter came up before Chief Resident Magistrate Lameck Mwale for plea, Monday, Banda who is on police bond, was not before court.

The matter comes up on October 23 for plea and possible commencement of trial.
