FORMER Zambia National Soccer Team doctor Joseph Kabungo has been appointed as a member of the FIFA medical committee. This is according to a letter of appointment dated January 18, 2017 and signed by FIFA secretary general Fatma Samoura.
“We are very pleased to inform you that you have been appointed member of the Medical Committee. We wish you our sincere congratulations on this appointment. We wish you great success and enjoyment in this role at FIFA and look forward to welcoming you to Zurich,” read the letter in part.
In an interview, Dr Kabungo said he was humbled by the appointment.
“I look forward to the big task ahead. Am very much humbled by this appointment and I owe it to the Zambian people,” said Dr Kabungo.
Dr Kabungo, who served as national team doctor from 2003 to 2016, becomes one of the 12 members of the FIFA Medical Committee.
He is currently a member of both FAZ and CAF Medical Committees and he is also the FIFA Doping Control Officer. Dr Kabungo is also a member of the medical committee under the local organizing committee of the 2017 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.
