Runner Sydney Siame has set a new 200m national record to an impressive 20:19 seconds.
Siame who has only one international meet from his Europe ran an impressive 20:19 seconds to win a gold medal at Cork City Sports International in Ireland on Monday.
Siame’s previous record which was also a national record was 20:26.
Running in lane seven, Siame was shoulders above the rest of the field with the closest being local favorite Lawler Marcus of Ireland who clocked 20.40 seconds and third was Jamaican Dwayer Rasheed 20.57 to complete the podium finishers.
Siame got gold, Marcus got silver and Rasheed got bronze in the 200m.
Great Britain Amaning Edmond came fourth on 20.57, Bailey Adrich Jr of the United States was fifth, Ireland Barr Thomas sixth, Japanese Someya Yoshihiro was seventh while USA McClean Sean was last in eighth.
Siame has been steadily improving in his preferred 200m this year posting times of 20.26, 20.35 and 20.19 in the last last three races.
He carries the country hopes for the medal at CAA African Championships in Asaba Nigeria in two weeks time.
