LABOUR and Social Security Minister Brenda Tambatamba says government has withdrawn proposed amendments to the Employment Code Act. On Tuesday the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions threatened countrywide protests if government went ahead and amended the Act, arguing that it suggested a reduction in gratuity from current 25 percent to 16 percent, among other proposals. Giving a ministerial statement in the National Assembly, Friday, Tambatamba said the proposals were still at infancy stage and government would undertake a consultative process before any action would be taken.
