SPEAKER of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti has directed Mines Minister Paul Kabuswe to issue a ministerial statement explaining why parliamentary approval was not sought in the sale of Mopani Copper Mines to International Resource Holdings. On Thursday, Kabuswe gave a ministerial statement on the sale of Mopani but the Speaker and several MPs were not satisfied with his explanations. Kabuswe’s ministerial statement was followed by a heated debate, with the minister struggling to answer questions from fellow lawmakers. The situation forced Mutti to ask Kabuswe to come back on the floor of the house and present another ministerial statement because his answers were not satisfactory.
