A FORENSIC audit into suspected drug pilferage has revealed that ZAMMSA ‘unnecessarily’ procured K16.5 million worth of IV fluids, the majority of which were short-dated, from three suppliers during the 2024 cholera outbreak, despite having IV fluids in stock and in the pipeline. The PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) audit has revealed that during this same period, 13 trucks carrying 553,280 units of IV fluids from Egypt’s Unified Procurement Authority (UPA), a government-to-government procurement, were turned back and not offloaded when they arrived at ZAMMSA.
