PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has pardoned 1,125 inmates across all correctional centres to commemorate Zambia’s 58th independence anniversary. The pardoned inmates include 1,074 males and 51 female inmates, respectively. Speaking during a media briefing, Sunday, Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Jack Mwiimbu said the pardoning of 1,125 inmates was in exercise of the President’s prerogative of mercy. “To commemorate Zambia’s 58th independence anniversary, his excellency Mr Hakainde Hichilema, has exercised his prerogative of mercy by pardoning 1125 inmates from incarceration across all correctional centers. Among the pardoned, 1074 are males while 52 are female inmates respectively. These are classified as follows: 1108 are ordinary inmates, 14 are old aged while 3 are foreign nationals.
