POLICE in Chipata, Eastern Province, have detained two suspects for allegedly smuggling petrol from Malawi. In a statement, Sunday, Eastern Province Police Commissioner Robertson Mweemba said the suspects were detained after police officers stopped their vehicle which was carrying 27 X 30 litre containers of petrol suspected to have been smuggled from Malawi. “I wish to inform you that today 12th April, 2025 at around 11:00 hours whilst at Chipata Division Police Head Quarters whilst standing outside Eastern Division Police HQ, two police officers spotted a motor vehicle Toyota Corolla Registration number ALX 5729 was realised that the vehicle might be carrying some contrabands.
