      Parliament ratifies ACC board members, DG

      Parliament has ratified the appointment of Musa Mwenye State Counsel and Gilbert Phiri as Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) board chairperson and director general respectively. Others whose appointments were ratified, Friday, are retired Judge Prisca Matimba Nyambe and Chad Muleza to serve as members of the Judicial Complaints Commission (JCC), Irene Musonda Chongo Lamba, Dr Henry Bwanga Mbushi, and Dr O’brien Kaaba to serve as Chairperson and members of the Anti Corruption Commission board.       IF someone approached you as a citizen of Zambia and asked you what you understand about the country’s debt situation and the solution that the UPND government has put in place, what would be your answer? The debt that Zambia has is not a UPND problem, that’s a given. It was inherited from the Patriotic Front regime. But the truth is that the party in power was voted for to precisely attend to this challenge, among other economic problems. The question is; have they laid out a clear debt dismantling plan outside their negotiations with the International Monetary Fund for a bailout package which is only meant for balance of payment support? We are asking this on the backdrop of President Hakainde Hichilema’s assurance that nothing will stand in the way of the UPND government’s debt restructuring plan. Speaking during a meeting with MCC representatives, Tuesday, President Hichilema said the recently held meeting with Zambia’s creditors was a big achievement on the road towards reaching consensus around the debt issue. President HICHILEMA: “So we went earlier on to engage, as you know the country had defaulted before the election and we thought that was an indictment on us. And the first step we took was really, reach out to some debt sustainability initiative programme which I am sure you are aware of, your colleges are aware of, to stay any further defaults which are unmanaged, which is uncontrolled, I think we successfully did that. [We] moved on to the staff level programme with the IMF four months or so after forming government. Now we have to go to a full programme and we are pleased to indicate to you that.......
